Cheryl Petrie Brahney

April 22, 1944 ~ February 8, 2018 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Cheryl Petrie Brahney entered eternal rest on February 8, 2018 at the age of 73.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Terry Patrick Brahney; her parents George William Petrie, Sr. and Ethelyn Burch Petrie;brother, George William Petrie, Jr. and son, George Petrie Boasberg.  She is survived by her children: Eve Boasberg Lion (David) and Jack Mark Boasberg, II (Kari) and step-children: Thomas Brahney (Melissa) and Bridget Brahney-Laudan (Christian); sister Gwendolyn Petrie McKeon (Eugene); nine grandchildren: Emma Lion, Andrew Lion, Julia Lion, Jack Boasberg, III, Anna Catherine Boasberg, Zachary Snow, Kelsie Brahney, Kinley Brahney, and Caroline Laudan.
She was born in New Orleans in 1944 and attended Holy Name of Jesus High School and later attended Louisiana State University (LSU) and The University of New Orleans (UNO) . She worked as a New Orleans Tour Guide, but her true profession was being an extraordinary mother and grandmother. She was known for her dedication to the Catholic faith and deep devotion to her family.  She adored spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.  Throughout her life, she was a phenomenal cook and avid gardener.  In recent years, her hobbies included going antiquing, vacationing to the beach with her family, attending bible study and mass at St. Ann Catholic Church, going to the Senior Center for activities, especially ceramics, and riding the stationary bike at the local YMCA.  She was known for her kind, compassionate ways, and her ability to light up a room with her laughter.  She was a blessing to all those who knew her and will be missed dearly.  Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Boulevard in New Orleans. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Donations can be made to St. Ann Catholic Church, 3601 Transcontinenental Drive, Metairie, LA 70006.
