Yvonne D. Trascher

February 5, 1925 ~ October 19, 2021 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Tribute

Yvonne Dolese Bernard Trascher, a native of New Orleans, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 19, 2021. She was 96 years old. Yvonne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Conrad Trascher,Jr.; her parents, Marcelle and George Bernard and her son, Charles ("Chuck") Trascher III. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Susan Doody(Steve), her son Kenneth Trascher(Angelika) and daughter-in-law Barbara Trascher; six grandchildren, Charlen Campbell, Spencer Doody, Colleen Doody, Charles Conrad ("Rad") Trascher IV, Meghan Coleman and Elizabeth Spansel; eight great-grandchildren, Jane and Claire Campbell, Charles, Henry and Wyatt Spansel, Grant and Samuel Coleman and Conrad Trascher.

Yvonne was a 1942 graduate of Holy Angels High School.  Reflective of the employment opportunities for women at the time, Yvonne explained that she enrolled in secretarial school because she was too short for nursing school, and worked briefly for the United Fruit Company.  She married Charles, her high school sweetheart, in 1946.  Their devotion to each other was evident to all who met them.  Once homebuilders and resellers in St. Bernard Parish where they raised three children, Yvonne and Charles settled in Venetian Isles in 1974 in a home they designed for their retirement and where they were one of the subdivision’s first residents.  Prior to moving to the waterfront full-time, Yvonne and Charles spent half-weeks at their boathouse in West End, boating and entertaining (and being entertained) by their many friends.  They made frequent sailing trips to “the Islands" and came to realize their dream of hosting their children and grandchildren on their boat in the Abacos, Bahamas.  Their love for the water was passed on to their children, all three of whom came to live on the water themselves.

After Charles died in 1994, Yvonne moved to Metairie to be near family. There, she was an active parishioner of St. Angela of Merici and its senior activities, and was especially active in the lives of her daughter and grandchildren.  Although they lived away from New Orleans, Yvonne delighted in the regular phone calls and visits with her sons Ken and Chuck and their families, who were a constant source of her joy and pride.

Yvonne was a talented cook (her recipes hang framed in several family member's kitchens), practiced seamstress, had a keen fashion sense, was fastidious in appearance (Yvonne would not be seen unaccessorized or without lipstick into her 90's), and was an award-winning fisherman (yes, Yvonne once won a Marlin rodeo).  She will be remembered most, however, for the kind and gracious manner she treated everyone she encountered, and for the unconditional love and support she gave in abundance to her family.

Yvonne may not have known what she did to deserve all the love and kindness she received in this world but we all know that it was just a mirror of what she gave.  She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
