Virgilyn Isabel Bonie

Virgilyn Isabel Bonie passed away in New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the age of 89.  She was born October 27, 1932, in New Orleans to Evelyn Hazel Howell and Walter Sebastien Bonie.  She is preceded in death by her parents. 

Virgilyn attended H.W. Allen School, graduated from Eleanor McMain High School in 1950, and attended L.E. Rabouin Vocational School where she studied advertising and commercial art.  She enjoyed a career as a draftsman at Humble Oil Co. for many years.  She was also an accomplished and talented artist who taught art lessons to senior citizens.

Virgilyn is survived by her 3 loving siblings, Muriel Bonie MacHauer wife of late Judge David MacHauer, Walter C. Bonie and wife Dianne Jones Bonie, and Merlin F. Bonie and wife Jacqueline Bonie.  Virgilyn is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.  A beloved sister and aunt, Virgilyn’s family will forever cherish the memories of her smile and laughter, her love for her family, her perseverance, and her generous and kind nature.  

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at the Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5200 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans, LA.  The private Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home beginning at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Virgilyn’s name to St. Ann Church and Shrine (3601 Transcontinental Drive, Metairie LA) where she sang in the choir for many happy years. Her faith brought her much peace.
