Surrounded by family, Shirley Ferger Donovan ascended into heaven on December 27th, 2018 at the age of 84 after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Beloved wife for 67 years of the late Charles G. Donovan Sr, who passed away on March 14, 2018. Shirley and Charles were wed on September 16th, 1950 and are now reunited in heaven. Daughter of the late Harold B. Ferger and Marie Fourmaux Ferger, Shirley was born on April 28th, 1934 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a resident of Metairie for the past 46 years. She is preceded in death by her four brothers: Harold, Robert, Henry, and John. Shirley leaves behind her four children: Charles Jr. (Teresa), Harold (Tammy), Thomas, and Linda Donovan Gerdes (C.J.). Loving grandmother to Angela Donovan Cockran (Damon), Charles III (Rachel), Jennifer Donovan Gebhardt (Gilly), Shawn (Amber), Natalie Gerdes Hebert (Doug), Nicole Gerdes (Ryan), Thomas, Jeff (Lacey), and Brittny Donovan. She is survived by two step grandchildren, Stephanie and Patrick, seventeen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Hazel Ferger, and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley loved her family unconditionally. She enjoyed spending her time and holidays surrounded by her large, adoring family. She loved to play cards, go out to eat, read, and play bunko. She also enjoyed traveling, but Alaska was by far her favorite destination. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Gone but never forgotten. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service honoring this brave and beautiful woman at Greenwood Funeral Home, located at 5200 Canal Blvd in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Monday January 14th from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with mass to follow.
