Sharon Steen Hewlett

Sharon Steen Hewlett, a native of New Orleans, daughter of the late Diane Thiel Steen and Thomas Bertus Steen, passed away unexpectedly on December 22, 2020. She was a graduate of Mount Carmel Academy, earned a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree in Mathematics from Loyola University New Orleans and Clemson University, respectively, but found her true passion and calling as the Director of Technology and an educator at Jesuit High School New Orleans for the last 22 years. She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, Raymond Terry Hewlett, Jr.; her three adoring children, Michelle Hewlett Sanchez (Aaron), Patrick Thomas Hewlett (Katie Metzler), and Linda Ann Hewlett (Foster Adams); and three grandchildren, Charlotte Ann Sanchez, Matthew Joseph Sanchez, and Josephine Maeve Hewlett. Sharon is also survived by her two loving siblings, William Thomas Steen (Kathleen) and Carol Steen Crisler (the late Bill), three nephews, six nieces, and seven grand nieces and nephews. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Sharon could only be described as selfless in every facet of her life. A lifetime parishioner and graduate of St. Dominic, she enjoyed coaching girls’ Lakeview Playground cabbage-ball (including back-to-back championships), creating a winter wonderland every Christmas for her annual Christmas Eve party, and sewing masks for every family member before the virus even reached the U.S. A dedicated Jesuit employee, Sharon is most well known for her patience and willingness to assist students and faculty with technology problems of any scale, and taking the lead on obtaining the federal grants needed to replace all technology to make the school operational following Hurricane Katrina. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. There will be a funeral Mass on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Noon at Jesuit’s Chapel of the North American Martyrs, 310 S. Solomon St., New Orleans, 70119. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m.– Noon. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, family only. The family asks all guests wear masks.
