Roy E. Fernandez, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. He was the loving husband of 51 years to Inez Reyes Fernandez and proud father of Kim F. and her husband, Dr. Donald R. Duplantier and grandfather of Tracy, Rene, Brooke, Maggie, Neil and Amy Duplantier. He is also survived by his sister, Linda F. Armstrong, many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Sr. and Marie Benenate Fernandez and his brother, Frank. Roy graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School and honorable served in the Louisiana Army National Guard. He worked at Shell Oil Company, A-1 Copy Center and Roy's Copy Service. He retired in 2005 from St. Bernard Parish. Roy grew up with a love for fishing in Lake Pontchartrain at Irish Bayou. He enjoyed wood-working in his garage, traveling the state for different festivals, watching old westerns, LSU sports and NFL football season. His annual joke was telling his wife that he loved her and would see her after football season ended. But the highlight of his life was being a witness to the achievements of his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. He rarely missed an opportunity to brag about their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 1:00p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 2621 Colonial Blvd., Violet, LA. Visitation will begin at 11:00a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Roy's name to Driven Youth Organization at P.O. Box 2336, Chalmette, LA 70044.
