Pura Garcia Canas

Went to be with God on June 11, 2022 at the age of 94.

Born in Jatibonico Cuba on December 8, 1927, to the late Miguel Garcia and Herminia Garcia Herrera.  She lived in New Orleans for the past 50 years.

Preceded in death by her loving husband Eduardo Canas Abril, Rene Garcia, (brother), Hector Garcia, (brother), Raul Garcia, (brother), Gilberto Garcia, (brother), Velia Lopez Garcia, (sister) and Nilda Garcia, (sister).

Survived by Nelsa Vergel Garcia, (sister), and Fr John Dominic Sims, O.P.

Cherished Aunt of Gilberto Garcia (Miriam), Tania Vergel Eyster, Diana Lopez Poleto (David), Graciela Lantigua (Luis), Raul Garcia Jr., Herminia Garcia Rodriguez (Ramon), and Marta Garcia Stauts (Kenny).Treasured great-aunt of Emily Eyster, David Poleto Jr., Mary Elizabeth Eyster and Judith Garcia Muller.

She was a loyal member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and committed Adoration Adorer for countless years. She loved God first above all and beyond words can say as well as her treasured family and her homeland of Cuba. Special gratitude to Maria Camacho for her loving kindness and companionship always.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 from 9:30am - 10:00am at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana.

A Christian mass will be celebrated at 10:00am in the Greenwood Chapel with interment to follow in Greenwood Mausoleum. Donations may be made to St. Dominic Catholic Church, 775 Harrison Ave., New Orleans, Louisiana 70124, in her honor if preferred.
