Tribute

Morris “Moe” Powell Jr. passed away on Monday February 15, 2021 at the age of 81. He was born and raised in the Irish Channel and a lifelong resident of New Orleans. Morris was the beloved husband to Olga Falati Powell for 59 years. He was the son of the late Mildred Gagan Powell and Morris "Toots" Powell Sr., and brother to Mildred “Millie” (the late Weldon) Brechtel and the late Glennon “Silky” (Connie) Powell.
He spent 38 years working for the Clerks and Checkers Union ILA.
Moe gave his life to the Lord in 1976 and attended church at White Dove Fellowship. His faith was simple. If God said it, then that was good enough for him.
He will be remembered for the many stories as a RAM for Redemptorist High School and always enjoyed visits with Ram alumni and Irish Channel natives.
Moe was an avid sports enthusiast. He will best be remembered as a fixture at the TPC of Louisiana whether it was on the course, driving range, grill or putting green. He successfully hit a hole in one on every par 3 on the course. He played golf with hundreds of golfers over the years and enjoyed every minute.
Above all, Moe loved his family. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. If he wasn’t on the phone organizing a golf game, he was probably talking to one of them…
Everyone who knew him, knew he had a special needs daughter – “Annie” - who he loved and cared for until last year and that was his number one job after retirement.
Moe was the father of Caroline (Brent) Coussens of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Morris Powell III of New Orleans, Ann Powell of New Orleans, and Patricia (Jay) Hymel of Frisco, Texas. He was “PawPaw” to: Jonathan (Janne) Coussens, Stephanie (Caleb) Huene, Catherine (Austin) McCarter, Nicholas Hymel, and six great-grandchildren: Chloe, Joshua, Taylor, Cora, Cooper, and Carson.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kelly Gibson Foundation in memory of Morris Powell, www.kellygibsonfoundation.org

Moe also leaves behind a closet full of hats, golf shirts, golf balls and multiple sets of left-handed golf clubs!

A private family memorial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday February 27, 2021.
