Milton John Ruiz, 57, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 27th at his home. He was born on February 17th 1960 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Milton grew up in Metairie. He graduated 13th in his class from Brother Martin High School in 1978. After high school he attended the University of New Orleans. Shortly thereafter, he began working as a security guard at Saia Motor freight quickly rising to the position of Superintendent remaining in that position for 20 years.
Milton was an avid fisherman and hunter. His love of the outdoors began at the age of nine when he was given his first Zebco rod and reel by his grandfather, Milton Danner. He never missed an opening day of duck season in Bayou Gauche nor spring time fishing in the Sulphur mines in south Louisiana. Milton possessed a vast knowledge of hunting and fishing and was an expert historian. He was an animated story teller, had a great soul and was fiercely loyal to those he loved. He never met a stranger and with his passing, has left many friends.
Milton was preceded in death by his father Clarence Ruiz and his beloved canine children Sugar and Honey. Milton is survived by his mother Joan Danner Ruiz; his sister Joan Ruiz; his brothers Ronald (Gail) and Bryan (Marlene) Ruiz; his brother-in-law James Sturcke; his beloved nephews Jeffrey and Jordan Sturcke, Ronnie, Tommie, Jerry, Bryan Jr., Jason (Sharon), Gary (Brienne), Troy (Nancy), Chad (Jenny) and Joey (Tricia) Ruiz; his special sister Astrid Edwards and special brother Harrison Russell; his dearest friend Gordon Matherne and canine daughter Babe.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation Service at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on Monday July 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM followed by a Memorial Funeral Mass in the chapel at 1:00 PM.
