I went to elementary school with Elizabeth Salvatore. Her mom was a teacher. My dad is a Freeport retiree. My name is Catherine Sylvest Schaff. I understand that Mr. Sanguinetti recently passed. My condolences to his family. 😢 I remember Claudette well. A pretty lady who taught at PS Elementary.

Stephanie and I would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Salvatore family. We loved Mike and he is truly missed. As his much younger cousin, I didn’t start spending time with him until later in life as an adult. After my father passed away, Leonard Jones, Mike took a keen interest in helping my mother, Vianne, manage her finances and organize her bookkeeping. His tenderness and love for my mother immediately won me over and I came to deeply respect his sharp mind and caustic wit. I learned how much he appreciated and respected my mother and he cherished being a part of our family gatherings as much as we cherished having him join us. Mike was always willing to give of his time to help anyone in need and I know he took a deep satisfaction in the support and comfort he brought to others. Mike took me under his wing, when he learned that Stephanie and I were planning to purchase rental property. He taught me a great deal on how to be successful in real estate, from deciphering spread sheets to dealing with property managers. He also protected me and my family from unscrupulous contractors. Mike loved to recount stories of how he drove off bad contractors from my houses who would have charged exorbitant fees for shoddy work. It has been so comforting to have such an intelligent man in my corner helping to protect the financial future of my family. In addition to being cousins we became close friends. Our long conversations ranged from politics to business but most importantly Mike always started the phone call by asking about my family. He was a wonderfully kindhearted man, sometimes in a gruff older man’s body, but always a dear and loving relative. I’ll miss you so much cousin. I’m sure you are now in heaven with my mother and father, possibly sitting at a lunch table giving some waiter or waitress a hard time for being unable to figure out a simple order. I will always love and cherish your memory.

I have fond memories of Mike at my mom and dad's house - Lenny & Vianne Jones. and then after their passing at my brothers' - Len & Pam's house ~ we enjoyed many Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays together. Mike would bring beignets ~ always a real treat especially for the kids!
Upon my father's passing, Mike came to the aid of my mom (Vianne) by helping her day after day organize her filing system. I jokingly and lovingly referred to him as the "File Nazi". Joking aside, we were all very grateful for the kindness and care he provided to my mom in her time of need. I wish I had Mike's filing system at my house now. I am sure he is being welcomed in his next adventure by Lenny & Vianne!
Blessings to his immediate family.

Joan's and my hearts are heavy as we bid farewell to a generous friend, a fine man and a great example of a smart and hard-working associate. Mike worked on many projects supporting the operations of Freeport Sulphur Company, and I could always count on his honest opinion on problems we encountered, and the most efficient ways to solve those problems. I gained a new insight into Mike’s generosity and cleverness when he mentored me in the rental real estate investment business in New Orleans. He was fun, most helpful and generous with his time leaching me the ropes of this activity. In all respects, he was a prize of an individual, and will be missed. Go with God, Mike.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike with condolences to Gayle, Elizabeth, Cindy and the extended Salvatore family. Our families first met in Port Sulphur following the devastation of Hurricane Betsy in 1965. Gayle and Mike were some of the first to welcome and guide us into the community of families on the Freeport Sulphur Townsite. Our children grew up together in Port Sulphur.. I remember Mike, as a good friend, visiting me in the hospital following surgery in 1985. Mike was full of entertaining stories and was partial to hard-working persons. I learned much from Mike and he will be sadly missed
