Merle Cecila Alt Cabibi

Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Merle Cecilia Alt Cabibi, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 86 years of age. She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Cabibi, Jr., who she married in 1962. She was born on September 21, 1937, to Merle Steiner Alt and Emile A. Alt, both deceased. She attended St. James Major Grammar School and graduated from Dominican High School in New Orleans in 1955. She was a homemaker and loved caring for her family. She had been a member of Les Marionettes Carnival Club and was a maid twice and then queen. She had been a member of Four Seasons Garden Club and the New Orleans Garden Society and helped decorate the Garden District Homes for their annual Garden District Christmas Tour. She loved live theater and attending family functions. She is also survived by her daughters, Cynthia Bird (Gary), and Sheila Monzon (Frank), her grandchildren, Jessica Monzon Ryan (Shawn Patrick), Dr. Geoffrey Bird (Jenna), and Victoria Monzon Bourgeois (Nicholas), and great-grandchildren, Shawn Ryan III, Charles Ryan, Kathleen Bird, Grant Bird, twins, Camille and Jackson Bird, future Henry Ryan and future baby-boy Bourgeois. She is also survived by her siblings, Janet Claire Alt Damare (Jules, deceased), Emile A. Alt, Jr. (Linda), Donald J. Alt (Judy), Paul M. Gement (Margie), and J’Nelle Gement Holland (Steven), and many nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Debbie Robinson and Crystal Woods (caregivers), Colonial Oaks Living Center, and St. Catherine Hospice for their love and tender care. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.
