Tribute

Melvin Edward Schick entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at the age of 84. Born to the late Joseph Harold Schick and Henrietta Leaber Schick on January 30, 1937, in New Orleans, LA.

He was preceded in death by his brother Allen Joseph Schick (Cindy).

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years Patricia Melancon Schick. Melvin was the loving father of Laura Schick O’Brien (Mario Zeron), Joseph E. Schick (Suzanne), Claude H. Schick (Kelly), and Melvin C. Schick. He is survived by his 9 grandchildren Michael Vaughn (Aimee), Zachary Cantrell (Kristen), Rebecca Lisgo (Anthony), Claude E. Schick (Hannah), Gabrielle Glass (Kevin), Carolynn Schick (Austin), Caitlyn Schick, Madison Schick, and John Ferrer. He is also survived by his 9 Great Grandchildren: Avery, Zach, Caedyn, Luke, Charley, Braelynn, Camille, Elijah and Reese. He is also survived by his nephew Joseph A. Schick (Libby) and niece Kristin Sparks (Tim).

Melvin was a devoted father and husband. He learned his love of fishing at a very young age with his father at Lake Borgne and continued it with his family. He graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1957 and was a lifelong Tulane Green Wave fan. He was a member of the United States Coast Guard and honorably discharged in 1962. He worked for over 50 years until the age of 73 for Canteen Vending Company, Automatic Coin and Imperial Trade. He was a resident of Harahan and lifelong member of St Rita Dad’s Club. He will be missed by his family, friends, and all that knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Thursday, July 8, 2021, starting at 10:30 A.M. Followed by a funeral mass in the Chapel at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
