Maud Comberrel O’Connor entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the age of 97. Survivors include her son, James O’Connor Jr.; daughter, Maureen Joaquin (Joseph, Jr.); daughter-in-law, Brenda O’Connor; her sister and best friend, Doris Jeffries; brother, Anthony Comberrel; grandchildren, Tina Bourgoyne (Lyn), Janel Harrison (Stuart) Jessica Wardlaw (Michael), Chad O'Connor, Corey O'Connor; Jolene Spell (Mike) and Joseph Joaquin, III. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is proceeded in death by her husband, James O’Connor, Sr.; son, Michael O’Connor; parents, Albertine Comberrel and Dominick Comberrel; brother, Floyd Comberrel (Irma); sister-in-law, Mary Comberrel; and daughter-in-law, Barbara O'Connor.
Maud was born in Schriever, LA and grew up in the Irish Channel. She was a stay at home mom, always there for her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and her meals always brought the family together. Her most requested meal was her famous chicken stew. She loved dancing in her kitchen to Cajun music and called herself Ms. Hollywood. She was a devoted Catholic, praying novenas for all those who were in need of prayer.
The family would like to thank the staff of Jo Ellen Smith Living Center and Envoy Hospice for the love, care and support that was given to Mrs. O’Connor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, on Monday, September 12, 2022. Private visitation for immediate family from 10:30-11AM and 11AM-1PM for family and friends, followed by a mass in the chapel at 1:00PM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are preferred to The Alzheimer's Association Louisiana Chapter, www.alz.org/louisiana, in honor of Maud O’Connor in hopes that a cure will one day be found.
