Mary Misuraca Munster

Mary Misuraca Munster passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the age of 99. She was born in New Orleans on February 13, 1922, to the late Vincent and Angelina Misuraca.

Mary was the devoted wife of the late Leon Joseph Munster and preceded in death by her sister Frances Misuraca Sardenga (Henry), brother Victor Misuraca (Beatrice), son-in-law Sammy D. Maggio.

Mary is the loving mother of Karen Munster Maggio and Gretchen Munster Plaia (Greg), proud grandmother of Laura Maggio Fisse (Jules), Danielle Louise Maggio (Megan), and Christina Plaia Riccobono (Joseph), great grand-mother of Juliet and Lila Fisse, godmother of Louis J. Sardenga (Cindy), aunt to Angela Sardenga Herber and Vincent Misuraca (Patty).

After retiring from Sears Roebuck & Co., she devoted all of her time to family. She was an excellent cook and continued a tradition of her parents by gathering the family for “Sunday dinner” and birthday celebrations where it was understood that the birthday boy/girl chose the meal.

Mary always said, “Oh no, I don’t want to live to be 100 – that’s too old!” Her wishes were granted after a long, healthy and beautiful life. She was a kind, loving, and caring person who was always there for her family when needed, whether it be to just listen or to care for them in times of need. You could always count on Mary. She will be dearly missed but she is surely dancing in heaven by now!

As there is a growing concern to keep everyone safe, a private service was held at Greenwood Funeral Home and Cemetery.
