Tribute

Mario Anthony Dominick Ruggiero passed away peacefully at the age of 96, on August 30, 2021. Mario was the loving husband of Charlote Mary Frances Mathies. He was predeceased by his parents, Rosira and Gregory Ruggiero, as well as his brother Angelo Ruggiero. Mario is survived by his brother Rocco Ruggiero and niece Roxanne R. Miller. Mario operated Ruggiero’s Restaurant in the French Quarter for 20 years. His favorite hobby was playing golf. Mario served his country during World War II, and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army. During his time of duty, he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. The family would like to express their thanks for the loving care he received at East Jefferson Hospital and Heart of Hospice. In lieu of flowers please send Masses or make a donation in Mario’s name to the American Heart Association. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am, on Thursday, September 23, 2021, in the Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, and will continue until Mass time. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at www.greenwoodfh.com.
