Marie "Bitsy" Richard Hyer

Marie “Bitsy” Richard Hyer entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 27, 2022. Born on May 18, 1953, Bitsy was raised in the heart of New Orleans, the Irish Channel. She is now in the arms of her beloved husband Floyd Hyer Jr. who she preceded in death. She was adored by her daughter Lacey Weaver (David) and son Christopher (Andrea). She was the proudest grandmother/BiBi to Liam Hyer, Charlotte Weaver, and Camille Weaver. The daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Richard (Edith Hart), Bitsy was a loving sister to Myra (Charles), Tommy (Mary), Lorraine and Ann. Sister-in-law turned sister to Glynn Hyer (Cassandra), Florence Poole (Robert), Darlene Lampard (Joey), Kathy Skeins (Bill), and Gaynell Porretto (Joel). She is also survived by extended family which includes a never-ending list of cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Bitsy was a graduate of THE Redemptorist High School and Charity School of Nursing. She went straight to work at Touro Hospital, where she continued her legacy until her passing. Family and friends came first followed by her New Orleans roots, Mardi Gras, and St. Patrick's Day in the Irish Channel. She was a member of the Out for Fun Social Club and 11th Ward Social Club. She was loved by everyone she met; no one was a stranger. She had the best dry humor and one-liners but will be most remembered for her complete selflessness. With the biggest heart, she cared for people around the clock, especially her two disabled sisters. Despite the challenges, nothing stopped her from girl trips, parades, or showing off her grandkids.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home located 5200 Canal Blvd in New Orleans on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. A mass will follow at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private for immediate family.
