Mamie L. Schwartz

Our lovely, beautiful mother, Mamie L. Schwartz, passed away on August 17, 2019, at the young age of 89 at her home in Metairie, Louisiana. For many years, Mamie began each day with her transistor radio, listening to the current news of her favorite New Orleans radio station. On the days she was not working as a saleswoman, Mamie was cooking for her family, reading about health and prevention and checking on the delivery of her Times-Picayune. Mamie stayed active as long as possible as she loved to dance, ride for miles on her stationary bicycle, attend weekly hair appointments with her favorite hairdresser at Maison Blanche, cook New Orleans style cuisine for her family and play bingo, using 20 plus cards at a time, with her lively friends. Mamie would never venture out of the house in the morning without her make-up applied which included her favorite “orange flip” lipstick and coiffured, curls framing her face. Her church and her belief in God were very important to her. She advocated to her family and friends to always talk to God and ask for his guidance and his blessings. Throughout her life, Mamie possessed unwavering strength, courage and determination, enduring life’s unexpected paths and debilitating health conditions. She was a beloved inspiration to her family and will forever be deeply missed.
Mamie was the daughter of the late Annie Weber and John Wesley Spencer. She is survived by her sons, Sammy Jr and Harry, her daughter, Julie and grandchildren Alexandra and Kyle.
