Mack Allen Mathis passed away peacefully on January 21, 2022 at his Metairie home surrounded by family at the age of 94. He was the devoted husband for 70 years to his late wife Joan Heaney Mathis. He is survived by his children Robert (Cheryl) Mathis, Susan (David) Thomas, Joseph (Melanie) Mathis, and Louise (George) Renaudin; as well as his grandchildren James (Sarah) Mathis, David Mathis, Natalie Mathis, Joseph (Leah) Mathis, Rachel Mathis, Louis Brantmeyer, Tyler Brantmeyer, Marie Renaudin and George Renaudin; as well as his great granddaughter, Abigail Rose Mathis. He was predeceased by his parents Irma Lavinghouse Fazende and Ulmont Mathis and his brother U.E. Mathis. Mack graduated Fortier High School and Loyola University. He was a WWII veteran, an avid golfer (shot his age at age 90), a member and past president of the Serra Club, and until recently a volunteer for St. Phillip Neri Church and the WWII Museum. He was President of Bertucci Construction for many years, served a term as President of the Associated General Contractors of America (Mississippi Valley Flood Control Branch), and coached various teams at Digby Playground.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Catholic Mass of Burial to celebrate Mack’s life, held at St. Philip Neri Church, 6500 Kawanee Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana, on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
