Louis J. Weigel

Louis J. Weigel passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Louis was born in New Orleans, October 22, 1935 to the late Louis P. Weigel and Petrina (Leona) Cacioppo Weigel. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1954, and enlisted in the Marine Corp where he served as a Corporal until 1956. He then went on to the University of Lafayette where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. Louis retired from Avondale Shipyards after 34 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed retirement tinkering on cars, managing rental property, and spending time with family.

Louis was not only a son, but a brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was married to the love of his life, Patricia Terrenova Weigel for 63 years, and raised 2 children. He enjoyed traveling with family, especially going to the casinos on the coast with his Pat. Louis lived a long, prosperous life and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a man of few words, however when he spoke, he often shared his wit and wisdom with family and friends.

Louis is survived by his wife, Patricia; their children, Terre W. Carter and David M. Weigel (Renee); grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, and Victoria (Brandon); great- granddaughter, Aubrey; his sister, Lois W. Bordes; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents. He will be remembered in our hearts and minds for his love, kindness and unwavering loyalty to family

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, on Friday, October 1, 2021, starting at 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Mass in the chapel at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider Masses or making a donation to the American Cancer Society in his memory. Due to COVID 19 regulations, please follow the current restrictions and everyone attending is required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing.
