Tribute

Lois Marie Guittierez Stiegman Browne, 88

Lois Marie Gutierrez Stiegman Browne returned to our Heavenly Father on May 4, 2021 in her beloved birthplace, New Orleans, La.
Born of Corinne and Arthur Guittierez in 1932, she grew up with her sibling, Arthur Jr. and her mother during the difficult depression era. She learned resiliency, fortitude and self sufficiency, and developed a lifelong love of academia and the arts. She had excellent skills in millinery and sewing and could make all types of clothing and costumes.
After her graduation from St. Joseph Academy High School, she married Karl M A Stiegman at St Leo the Great Church. She bore three children, Karl, Karol and John Stiegman, two of whom survive her in death. The loss of her eldest son in 2018 was devastating, her health floundered thereafter.
Lois studied Education at LSUNO. She began her teaching career at St. Francis Cabrini to best accommodate the busy schedule of a single mother (she and Karl had divorced). She loved being a teacher and later volunteered teaching painting in elementary classrooms. Lois was a creative and social lady. She joined other women for painting, exhibiting and selling scenes of New Orleans.
Lois worked as an executive secretary at Kessler Bodenhiemer Insurance Agency for about 10 years and is a past President of Professional Secretaries International. She was the “go-to” counselor for Financial Aid Administration for Tulane University Health Science Center for 20 years. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 1252
Lois also had a deep love of music. It was vital to her that her children study music and classical dance. She taught Karol old Southern lullabies to sing to her grandchildren, John played trumpet in high school and Karl “Spool” was a successful career musician.
In 1969, Lois married Wilbur A. Browne. They loved taking cruises and visiting the Pacific Northwest.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her former husbands, her son Karl “Spool” Stiegman, Jr., and her daughter-in-law, Anne Stiegman (John). She is survived by Karol and John Stiegman, and daughter-in-law Faye Stiegman (Spool). Surviving grandchildren are Scott Stiegman (Elizabeth), Marie Marshall (Mickey), Katherine Stiegman, and Patrick Stiegman (Bridget); Monique Stiegman, and Tyler, Katie, and Amadore Tse; Denise Engolia (Mark), Rachel Newman, Cyndy Buckel and Boomer Newman (Lisa). Her great grandchildren are Adele Stiegman, Charlotte Tse, and Magnolia Marshall, Anthony, Danielle, Dominic, and Alexa Engoli Brittnay and Caitlin Buckel, Brady and Bryce Newman, Taylor Carrouche, and Karley Mongogna, as well as great-great grandchildren Blakely Engolia and Cannon O’Connor.
