Katherine Volpi Vial

Katherine Volpi Vial, age 90, passed away on September 28, 2021. Katherine was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on November 4, 1930, to Frank and Cecilia Callahan Volpi.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Erwin Vial, Sr., daughters; Catherine Williams, Kerrylee Thomas, and Kellie Crimmins (Kenneth), her great granddaughter, Lacie M. Randall, and her brother, Frank Volpi (Marilyn), son-in-law, Peter Morganti, and brother-in-laws, Terry Power and Joe Pisciotta.

She is survived by her 4 children; Kay Lynn Morganti, Karen Hodges (Kenneth), Erwin Vial, Jr. (Erin), and Michael Ryan, Jr. (Brandy), 23 grandchildren; Angel Vial, Jimmy Vial, Kimbie Landry (Curt), Robyn Morganti, Gene Hyorth, Nicole House (Chris), Bobbie Jo Blanda, Robbie Blanda, Tyanne Anderson (Brad), Shanon Janney (Todd), Jamie Deal (Jeremy), Erica Bircher (Mike), Kristen Thomas (Brennon), Shantel Williams (Timothy), Rick Thomas (Cassandra), Jonathan Thomas (Brittany), Blake Hodges (Lauren), Erwin Vial III, Joseph Vial (Alicia), Jessica Crimmins, Chelsey Crimmins, Kamryn Ryan, and Michael Ryan, III. She is also survived by 36 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and two sisters; Cecelia Volpi Power and Beverly Volpi Pisciotta, and two son-in-laws; Shannon Williams and Bernard Thomas. She also leaves behind her 50 year old parrot, Poncho.

Katherine was a great cook and loved her family and specifically her children. She loved her sweets, morning tea, pictures, watching sports, plants, working in her flowerbed, and playing cards and games with her grandchildren. She had the largest accumulation of keychains you would ever see for only one house key. She was a healthy, confident person, beautiful inside and out, and never complained. Mom never wanted us to leave when we came to visit her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, starting at 10:00 A.M. Followed by a funeral mass in the Chapel at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
