Tribute

Joseph J. Avocato passed away on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the age of 94. Son of the late Joseph Avocato and Rosalia Bongiovanni Avocato. Brother of the late Angelina “Angie” Avocato (Ferguson) Matt Avocato, Rosario Avocato, Grace Avocato, Frank Avocato, Lena Avocato (Kendall) and Salvador “Sam” Avocato.
A U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and during the Korean War, was an Aviation Ordancemen attached to the U.S. Navy Reserved Fighter Squadrons (VF-821), serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Princeton (CV-37) off the coast of Korea. After Mr. Avocato was discharged, he worked in men’s clothing at Maison Blanche, Godchaux’s, Macy’s, and Lord and Taylor. He enjoyed playing golf at Cypress Lakes Country Club at Ormond in Destrehan, LA and proudly has three holes in one. Mr. Avocato was the proud uncle of Steven Avocato (Mary Catherine), Noel Avocato (Charlene), Michael Avocato (Kim), Dawn Avocato Oddo (Kenny), Mark Avocato (Kimberly), Paul Avocato (Denise) and my great Ferguson Family in San Diego, CA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 4921 W Metairie Ave, Metairie, on Thursday, July 8, 2021, starting at 9:30 AM, with words of remembrance at 10:20 AM, followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:30 AM. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church.
