Early in the morning of September 2, 2022, Joe "Joey" Alvin David, Jr. unexpectedly passed away leaving a devoted family to grieve his loss. He was 43 years old. Joey was a brilliant yet humble man. Wickedly funny, Joey did not enjoy the spotlight. Instead, Joey preferred to, in his words, “blend into the wall.” Despite his many academic and professional successes, Joey achieved his true purpose with the birth of his two perfect sons: George David and Charlie David. They were his shining beacons of light, his reason for living, his pride and joy. These two amazing young men are his greatest legacy and gift to this world. Joey never missed an opportunity to praise his boys’ kind hearts, bright minds, and good souls.
Joey was a National Merit Finalist and graduated magma cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He worked as an engineering project manager in multiple capacities for 15 years at HP before moving on to other pursuits.
Joey is survived by his sons, George and Charlie David, their mother and his ex-wife, Keegan Chopin, his beloved mother, Joanie David Briggs, his stepfather Patrick J. Briggs, his father Joe A. “Butch” David, his stepmother Susie David, brother Jeff David, sister-in-law Kate B. David, devoted companion Melanie Zarzycka, their dog, Loki, a host of loving nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles. Joey was predeceased by his most treasured dogs: NOLA, Pudge, and Happy.
While Joey’s fervent wish was to be shot out of a cannon, the David Family cordially invites you to Joey’s funeral Mass, this Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Holy Name of Jesus Church. Visitation is scheduled from 2:00-3:15 with Mass following thereafter at 3:30 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, George and Charlie ask that you make donations in their name to the Second Harvest Food Bank.
