James “Boogie” Melerine, Sr.

James “Boogie” Melerine, Sr. passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Lena Owens Melerine for over 60 years. Cherished father of James Melerine, Jr. (Karen), Lona Cook (Charlie), Cheryl Melerine, Timothy Melerine (Alisha), and Lance Melerine. Grandfather of Celeste, Holden, and Travis Melerine; Corey, Dillon, and Sarah Cook; Trysta Smith and Aubree Newcomb; Cameron, Timothy, Jr. and Clare Melerine; and Laken and Lathen Melerine. Devoted son of the late Frank “Neko” Melerine and the late Florence Brining Melerine. Caring brother of Catherine “Dudy” Menesses (the late, Clarence “Beyo”), the late Walter Melerine (the late, Betty “Mondy”), and the late Beverly Dolese (the late, Clarence “Putty”). He is also survived by a host of loving great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Melerine loved serving God. He touched the lives of many people through his service and dedication to God. One of Boogie’s favorite hobbies was woodworking, which he spent as much time as he could working on, sharing his crafts with as many people as possible.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Poydras Baptist Church, 8213 Saro Lane, St. Bernard, LA, on June 10th, 2023, starting at 9:30 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 11:30 AM.
