James Arnold Guderian, 77, of Madisonville, LA, passed away on Saturday April 15, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 15, 1946 in New Orleans to the late Joseph Edward Guderian and Marion Siekmann Guderian. James went by the name Jim, but to many was just “Coach.” Every Friday night you could find him on the football field. He had a noteworthy career coaching high school and college athletes in Texas, Florida, and Louisiana. Coaching was more than just a job to Jim. He always said his career never felt like work. He was blessed to enjoy many years doing something that he loved. Jim worked as an educator for over 40 years. He touched the lives of many, not only shaping players, but also lending guidance and support to anyone willing to receive it. Sharing his wisdom through the stories he loved to tell of his adventurous life. He was a great lover of animals, including his beloved dog, Thor. He will be dearly missed as Jim loved his family above all, centering his life around the well-being of his daughters. He is survived by his younger brother Kenneth Guderian; three daughters—Therese Arroyo, Gretchen Caldwell, Laura Gausling; and three grandchildren—Joseph Caldwell, Ashlea Arroyo, and Zachary Arroyo. Visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday April 19, 2023 from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM, followed by services at 1:00 PM, at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124. Burial will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery.
