Hilda Carter Spencer, 84, passed from this world into the arms of her heavenly Father on Thursday, July 13, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was a lifelong resident of the Irish Channel in New Orleans. She retired after many years as a cashier at Canal Villere, but the real love of her life was celebrating all things New Orleans with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Louisa Carter; husband, William H. Spencer,Sr.; twin Milda Hingle; and sister Leona King. She is survived by her children William H. Spencer, Jr. (Patricia), Hilda Austin (Edward, Sr.), Wesley Spencer, Karen Spencer, Kevin Spencer (Julie); grandchildren: Heidi, Edward,Jr., Amanda, William,III, Brittany, Mark and Jerry, great grandchildren: Hope, Ashlyn, Edward (Tre), III, Haley, Hanna, Ava, Maxx, Chase, William,IV, and Patrick, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff of East Jefferson Hospital and Carpenter House for their gentle and loving care in her final days. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, July 15, 2017 in the chapel of Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans, Louisiana at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service and will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment is to follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
