May 20, 1943 ~ April 17, 2022 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Tribute

George Ralph Werner, born in New Orleans on May 20, 1943, passed swiftly away on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at the age of 78 in the arms of his beloved daughter, Brittney L. Werner. The Lakeview native is survived by his dear sons, Brian D. Werner, Brett D. Werner, and Tommy D. Yuncevich, as well as his niece, Lili L. Werner. A doting grandfather of two, Ella M. Werner and August J. Marsh, George leaves behind two of his six siblings, Daniel A. Ellis and Jerlyn W. Courtney. He is preceded in death by his son and namesake, George Ralph Werner, II, his siblings Augie Werner, Evelyn Ellis Assaf, Mario Calderini, and Ed Werner, and his parents, August F. Werner and Odilie 'Lili' Rodriguez. After growing up around family enterprises at West End on Lake Pontchartrain, George had a career as a Sergeant for the New Orleans Police Department, then went on to establish the iconic entertainment venue Augie’s Delago. He was proud of his family legacy in the area and devoted his life to developing projects in West End, but Augie’s was considered his masterwork and ‘other child.’ He raised his offspring to be enchanted by the sunsets in his backyard – the lake – and by the allure of where the water meets the land. More than anything else, George valued his family and his relationship with the Lord. He was sensitive, deep, kind-hearted, and strong. He had a way with words like no other and drew his adoring relatives into an endless loop of his dreams and steadfast ambitions. There could never be enough time with this charming man. He will be forever missed.

His life will be celebrated by his family surrounded by those who loved him at Riverside Baptist Church at 10am on Saturday, April 23.
