Mr George Beverly Florn

George Beverly Florn, age 91, died at The Sanctuary Hospice, on Friday, September 1st, 2017. Born February 10th, 1926 in New Orleans to George B. Florn and Katherine Ford Florn, he remained a lifelong resident of the city until his passing. George proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, sailing aboard the Cape Trinity in the waters of the Pacific theater. He later distinguished himself during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army 2nd Chemical Mortar Battalion, also known as “The Red Dragon”. He was honorably discharged in 1952, having attained the rank of Sergeant. George married his wife Veronica Ingram Florn in 1960. He later became the proprietor of the Belfort Inn, a local bar located near the New Orleans Fairgrounds in the 1970’s. George was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Rosemary Florn Moulton, his daughter Patricia Slaven, his son Curtis Slaven, and his granddaughter Ashley E. Upchurch. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Veronica Ingram Florn, his daughters Catherine Florn Amedio and Darice Florn Moyer; and his sons-in-law Warren J. Amedio and R. Kirk Moyer III. He was the proud “Bampa” and “Papoo” to his grandchildren, Michelle Valdes Hawkes (Elliott), Ryan F. Upchurch (Brandi), Connor L. Upchurch, Amanda B. Moyer, R. Kirk Moyer IV, Alexandra K. Amedio, Lane S. Amedio, and W. Reese Moyer. He was the great grandfather to Carson D. Upchurch and Reagyn L. Upchurch. George also leaves his nephew, William A. Moulton, Jr. and his niece, Debra M. Liuzza. He will also be missed by his grand dogs Cocoa and “TuTu”. The family would like to thank his long-time doctor, Dr. Chase Cannon of the V.A. Medical Center and the hospice nurses of The Sanctuary and Passage’s and for their care and compassion.
Friends and family are invited to the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. followed by a memorial service beginning at 11:00 A.M.
