George J. Cassard III

June 3, 1938 ~ May 15, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old
George J. Cassard, III passed away peacefully at his home on Monday evening, May 15, 2017, at the age of 78, surrounded by loving family and friends after a difficult struggle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved son of the late George J. Cassard, Jr. and Cecile Gambel Cassard; brother of Mary Cassard, Christian Cassard (Jill) and C. Elvige Cassard; uncle of Cecile Marie Fletcher (Templeton), Katherine Rose Calabrese (Mauro), Heather Anne Richards, Matthew Schall Richards; great uncle of Ramona Stella Maris Fletcher, Lucienne Marie Fletcher and Flora Aparecida Calabrese. He is also survived by many loving cousins and friends. A native of New Orleans and a resident of Metairie retired from his work in banking, George was a reserved, witty, understated and compassionate man of character and integrity devoted to his family, friends, faith and Jesuit High School, who enjoyed people (and pool, boats, trains, travel, music, movies, Marilyn Monroe, history, antique cars, finances and economics, books, current events, dancing, angel food cake, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Saints and compounded interest) and helped numerous individuals in countless ways. He belonged to a number of religious, boating, pool and social clubs. His survivors are greatly comforted by his having passed away to the songs of his favorite musician, Hank Williams, taking it as a sure sign of the fulfillment of God’s words, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.” Mt. 25:21. Visitation will be at St. Stephen Catholic Church (Good Shepherd), 1025 Napoleon Ave, New Orleans, on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, starting at 11:00 AM, with Mass at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery #3. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Serra Club of New Orleans, c/o  Notre Dame Seminary, 2901 S Carrollton Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70118-4391 or the Sister Dulce Foundation, Inc. (Cypress Springs Mercedarian Prayer Center) or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
