Elmo (Pete) C Gonzales Sr

Elmo (Pete) C. Gonzales Sr., born in New Orleans Louisiana, passed away on October 3, 2021, in Covington, Louisiana, just two weeks shy of his 101st birthday.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, La 70124. Funeral services and burial will follow beginning at 1:00. Arrangements are by Greenwood Funeral Home.

Elmo, known to his family and friends as Pete, was born in New Orleans to Edward J and Mary Marie Gonzales. He married Pauline on March 24, 1945 in New Orleans and was happily married for 52 years. Pete later married Leatrice whom had been his companion for 6 ½ years. Pete worked as a bus driver for RTA for 30 years. Pete was a veteran of World War II where he proudly served in the Army and received numerous commendations.

Pete is preceded in death by his first wife Pauline Gonzales, his second wife Leatrice S. Gonzales, his brothers Ned and Earl Gonzales, and his sisters Eunice Gonzales and Joyce Hampton.

Pete is survived by his children Ned and Julie Gonzales, Elmo Jr. and Connie Gonzales, Jean Scanlan, Justin Scanlan; his grandchildren Tabitha and Dominick Candebat, Kimberly and Brian Johnson, Scott Gonzales, Timothy Gonzales, Randy Cisco; and his great-grandchildren Eliana, Lillian, Miley, Cameron, Ashton, and RJ.

Whether he was called Elmo, Pete, Dad, Old Man, Paw-Paw, or Great Paw-Paw, one thing is for certain, he was loved by everyone and will be missed by all.
