Tribute

After a lengthy illness Edgar Anthony Maresma son of Pauline and Edgar Maresma died on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. He attended Jesuit High School and Loyola University. After graduation he was employed by the Godchaux Clothing Company as a Manager and buyer for the Squire Shop. He was a Management Analyst for the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. Upon entering the Society of Jesus in August 1967, he did two years of Jesuit Novitiate training at St. Charles College, Grand Coteau, La. He taught Theology for one year at Jesuit High, New Orleans. He received a M.A. in Philosophy from St. John Vianney Major Seminary in East Aurora, New York. From 1970 to 1973 he studied theology at Milltown Institute of Theology in Dublin, Ireland. On June 8, 1973 he fulfilled a lifelong dream when he was ordained as a Jesuit priest. For the next two years he studied for the Licentiate in Sacred Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome earning the S.T.L degree. From 1975 to 1979 he taught Theology at Jesuit High School in New Orleans and was the Minister of the Jesuit Community. He went on to teach Theology at Strake Jesuit in Houston and became the school’s third president in January of 1981. He would serve as president for the next 10 years. He returned to Jesuit High School and taught theology until 1995. At that time, he decided to leave the priesthood to live the rest of his life as a lay person. He is survived by his brother Allen, sister in law Darlene, nephews Keith and Brad. A private graveside service was held on Friday, April 20, 2018.
