Doris Thiel Melan

Doris T. Melan passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023, at 10:00 AM. She was born on August 3, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Nellie Heine Thiel and Gilford Thiel who predeceased her.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin D. Melan, Jr. for 80 years. She is also preceded in death by her son, Edwin Melan, III, sister, Elaine Thiel Aubye her brother, Charles Thiel, sisters-in-law, Theresa Biddle, and brothers-in-law, Edward Aubye, Lawrence Biddle, and Anthony Melan.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children: Raymond A. Melan (Claudia), Mary Ann Fowler (Danny), Jimmy C. Melan (Sue), Toni-Lynn Caronia, and Bruce Melan (Michele). She was the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Priscilla Melan and Caggie Thiel.

Doris was a long-time member in good standings of the AARP 725.

The family would like to extend their great appreciation and thanks for the care given to her by her nurses, Kim Green and Lacey Cherelle.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, starting at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in the Chapel at 11:00 AM.
