Dr. Don M. Hemelt

Dr. Don M. Hemelt passed away at home on Friday, March 9, 2018, at the age of 68. Beloved husband of Rosemary Hemelt. Father of Brent Hemelt (Cheri). Stepfather of Jason Clayton (Rachel). Brother of Sybil Rigsby (Tommy) and the late Roy Hemelt. Son of the late Henry Hemelt and Nydia Hemelt. Also survived by 7 grandchildren.
He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Belle Chasse for 18 years. Dr. Don was the Director of Pathology at Ochsner West Bank, where he had a long standing career and enjoyed working with his colleagues who he thought of as family. He loved attending Jazz Fest, listening to music, going fishing and attending crawfish boils.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, on Thursday, March 15, 2018, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass in the Chapel at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society, 455 F. Edward Hebert Blvd., Belle Chasse, LA 70037.
