Dianne Mary (Strauch) Brechtel, born on March 7, 1940, in New Orleans, passed away at age 78 on January 16, 2019.
She was the daughter of William Joseph Strauch and Irene Bernius Gates Strauch of New Orleans.
Dianne and husband Johnny were longtime residents of Chalmette, where they were parishioners of St. Mark Catholic Church. Dianne was employed for many years at the Domino Sugar refinery. After Hurricane Katrina, the couple relocated to Hammond, where Johnny died in 2010. Dianne spent the last two years in Brandon, Mississippi.
Dianne devoted her life to taking care of parents, kids, grandkids, the sick, and the elderly. An incredible cook, she found joy in feeding any and all who entered her kitchen, especially the friends of her three boys.
In addition to her parents, Dianne was preceded in death by beloved husband John Patrick Brechtel III, son William Joseph Brechtel, and brothers Charles Gates (Shirley) and Edward Gates (Ollie Mae).
Dianne is survived by sons John Patrick Brechtel IV and Michael Paul Brechtel (Lori); grandchildren Evan, Julia, Jacques, and Jules; twin sister Joanne Williams (John); brother William Strauch Jr. (Lydia); daughter-in-law Monica Brechtel; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., in New Orleans, on Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 9 a.m. - 11 a.m., followed by a mass of remembrance with Msgr. Bob Massett celebrating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
