David Elliott Peralta at the age of 64, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 of natural causes in his St. Bernard home. David was the father of Matthew Peralta and Katie Peralta. He was the son of Phyllis Knight Peralta and the late Elliott Peralta and the brother of Steve Peralta, Loretta Gill and the late Elliott “Chip” Peralta. David is survived by two granddaughters Braelyn Templet and Mia Bella Templet.
A life long resident of St. Bernard Parish, David had a rather distinguished career with the New Orleans Police Department. Upon completion of the academy, he spent his career working the Traffic Division, Tactical Unit, and Narcotics. Retiring at the rank of Sergeant, he began a new promising career with the St. Bernard Sheriff's Department. He was named Administrator of the Juvenile Detention Facility and given the rank of Captian. Not long after he was promoted to Warden of St. Bernard Correctional Facility, receiving the Rank of Major. After his retirement in 2001, he sought to try his hand in politics. Already an active Council member, he worked as the Parish CAO under President Craig Taffaro, whom he would later run victoriously against to become the Parish President. Despite such demanding positions, David found time to enjoy the simple things. Never one to live a lavish lifestyle, his hobbies involved gardening, reading, cooking, and fishing.
