Carolyn Schwarz Myers of New Orleans passed away on August 22, 2017 after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in New Orleans, LA on January 12, 1928. Carolyn will always be cherished by Charles William Myers Sr., her devoted husband of 66 years; her loving children, Charles “Bill” Jr. (Christie), Stephen, Bradley (Judy), Charlyn , David (Sharla), Gregory, Cheryl (Cindy Kenney), John (Tracie) and Carla (David Lewis); her grandchildren Charles “Chad” III (Rebekah), Scott, Jill (Kyle Williams), Whitney (Adam Walker), Leigh (Manuel Perez-Mazuecos), Travis, Courtney (Brian Minor), Chase, Hays and Jason Myers; Matthew and Noah Lewis; step-grandchildren Ryan Floyd and Holly Perez; great-grandchildren Charles “Charlie” IV and Abigail Ryan Myers; Kate, Anna Claire, Reed, Gray and Bennett Williams; Olivia, Eli and Cole Walker; Gabriela Perez-Myers; and Grayson Perez; and her brother and sister-in-law Edouard Jr. and Marion Schwarz. Carolyn is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Edouard Schwarz Sr. and Victoria Goodman Schwarz and her sister and brother-in-law Alfie and Harry Collins. Carolyn graduated from McMain High School and Soule Business College. She worked as secretary to the superintendent of the Orleans Parish Public School Board, where she met Charles. A devoted member of St. Dominic parish for more than 40 years, serving as the president of the Mother’s Club and the School Board, Fair Chairman, member of the Rosary Altar Society, a Liturgical and Eucharistic minister and as a member of the rectory staff. Carolyn also served on the board of the local chapter of the Friends Alliance of the Mentally Ill. She was a generous and selfless volunteer as evidenced by receiving the Order of St. Louis medallion from Archbishop Phillip Hannan in 1986. The family would like to thank Carolyn’s caregivers: Laurie, Sylvia and Janine of Passages Hospice; the many caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care including Ashley who brightened Carolyn’s Saturdays for the last two years, and especially Liz, who was wonderfully devoted to Carolyn over the past four years and has become a member of the family. Family members, especially the sons, are awed by the care our Mom received from her three daughters who gave sacrificially of their time and lives to show unconditional love to a very special woman. They are an inspiration and witness to the deep honor and love we all have for our Mom and Dad.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, August 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans with a rosary to be said at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Dominic Church, 775 Harrison Avenue, New Orleans, on Monday, August 28 from 10 a.m. to Noon before a funeral mass at Noon celebrated by Rev. Tony Ricard and Deacon Uriel Durr. Interment will be at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to St. Augustine High School, 2600 A.P.
