Our hearts go out to the family at this difficult time. Bret was our closest and oldest friend. He truly was Gerard's brother and he will be thought of daily by us for the rest of our lives. He is finally free & flying so high.

I pray it comforts you all to know what an incredible impact Bret made in so many lives. He has left us a legacy of lessons that I myself will try to live by. He never let his illness define him and had such an incredible zest for life even in the midst of suffering from ALS. All could see this in his smile and I could feel it in the words he shared in writing me on FB. He actually took the time and found the energy to keep up with his friends, no matter the distance or lapse in time since he'd seen them. I was so touched that he had kept up with me on FB and knew all about my daughter through the years. ALS took Bret from this world physically, but ALS lost the battle of spirit, determination and the never-ending love Bret continued to emanate. I thank God I was a friend of Bret Gleason, he was a true God-sent human being to all of us. Cindy, thank you for being a warrior in his fight and blessing this world with his presence for so may years and against all odds. Prayers and hugs to you all.

I did not know Bret but I was looking over the Obituaries on NOLA.com and came across the name Gleason...When I see the name Gleason, I will always be reminded of my Dad who also lost his battle to ALS but not his spirit. I love how you said that about Bret and I told myself, "perfect saying in honor of my Dad"...
I HATE ALS!
