Tribute

Beverly Claire Nogues Rheams passed away on March 25, 2021 at her home in Abita Springs, La. surrounded by her family. She was born in New Orleans, La. on February 13, 1923. Being 98 years old, she decided that she was ready to go to heaven. She is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, William George Rheams, Sr., her mother Genevieve Gosman Nogues, her father Pierre Nogues, Sr., her sister Anna Mae Nogues Clement and brother, Pierre Nogues, Jr., and many aunts and uncles.

Beverly grew up in Lakeview when it was mostly dairy farms, shell roads and Live Oak trees. Her main goal in life was to be a mother. She succeeded in this role through her deep love for her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She taught her family that faith, love and joy are the most important gifts in life. Beverly had a warm and radiant smile that shone pure goodness. She was kind to everyone she met. She was a mom to all who needed one, and there are many who benefited from her love. Beverly was devoted to saying the Rosary twice a day for her entire life. She dedicated these intercessory prayers to her family and anyone who requested them. Many have claimed that they worked.

She is survived by her 5 children, William George Rheams, Jr., Stephen Pierre Rheams (Theresa), Christopher Nogues Rheams (Amy), Anne Benefiel Rheams, Elizabeth Hall Rheams Shaw (Gerald); her 6 grandchildren, Genevieve Rheams (Melanie), April Rheams, Stephanie Rheams O’Donnell (Tim), David Rheams (Sarah), James Rheams (Sierra), Patrick Shaw; her 10 great grandchildren, Claire, Emma and Christopher Cancienne, Corinne, Stefan and Henry Ward, Eleonore and Caitlyn O’Donnell, Magnolia and Lily Rheams; her nephews Ray Clement (Dody) and Geoffrey Clement (Donna); and, niece-in-law Gayle Rappold.

A Catholic Mass will be at Greenwood Funeral Home and burial in Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans, La. The services will be private.

Anyone who wishes to honor Beverly can donate to an organization of their choice that serves the elderly and infirm. That gift would be appreciated greatly by the family.
