Bertrand Peter Boe Jr.

Bertrand Peter Boe, Jr., “Bert”, born a native New Orleanian on November 21, 1935, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023, in the presence of his loving family at the age of 87. Bert was the son of the late Bertrand Peter Boe, Sr. and Mattie Gonsoulin Boe. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary McCarthy Boe and beloved father to Susan Boe and Bertrand P. Boe, III “BB” (Renee’). He was brother to the late Valerie Boe Paternostro (Guy), Don Boe (Carol), and Ray Boe (Linda). He is survived by his sisters Betty Boe Hart (Fred), Gay Boe LeCompt (Arthur), Don’s wife Carol, and Ray’s wife Linda. Bert had four grandchildren, Kristopher Comeaux (Camila), Christina Boe Heath (Deron), Shawn Monaghan, and Brandon Boe (Amanda). He also had nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bert became a member of Local #53 Insulators Union in June of 1953 and had been a retired member since January of 1982 with almost seventy years of continuous good standing membership. Bert’s love for music was embedded from an early age and he began his musical career playing the clarinet for the Francis T. Nicholls High School Rebels Band. He went on to entertain thousands playing the Clarinet and Saxophone in the New Orleans French Quarter, for venues such as The Famous Door, Preservation Hall, The Old Opera House, and Seaport Café along with New Orleans Mardi Gras Parades and Social Events. He was a decades long member of Pete Fountain’s Half Fast Walking Club and was inducted into the New Orleans Musician’s Hall of fame in the 1980’s. He also belonged to the “Zoo Crew Club”, for decades where family and friends got together to make the most out of friendship, music, and good food. Bert’s favorite pastimes were throwing big parties while entertaining, restoring antique furniture, fishing, and of course, tootin his horn. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. A Graveside Burial Service will be held beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12th, 2023, in Greenwood Cemetery located at 5190 Canal Boulevard, New Orleans, LA, 70124, followed by a Celebration of Life at Palmettos on the Bayou, (985) 718-8718, located at 1901 Bayou Lane, Slidell, LA, 70460, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for all family and friends to attend.
