Bernard Joseph Villars

Bernard (Ben) Joseph Villars, passed away on Monday, June 25, 2018 at the age of 74 years. Beloved husband of Catherine Paternastro Villars. Father of Kelly Esquivel (Rennie), Nikki Phillips (Dale) and Bret Villars (Kimberly). Survived by grandchildren Kaitlyn, Bradley and Blake Villars, Klye, Josh and Morgan Lazaroe; step-grandchildren Brandon and Morgan Phillips and Jessica and Matthew Esquivel. Son of the late Bernard and Irene Herbert Villars and son-in-law of the late John and Mary Paternastro. Bernard (Ben) married the love of his life in 1964. They celebrated their 54th anniversary in March 2018. After humble beginnings and upbringing, he retired from Ross products division of Abbott labs after 30 years of successful pharmaceutical sales. He was an avid runner. He loved being Poppa to his grandchildren. He enjoyed yearly family beach vacations in Florida. He loved driving around Lafreniere Park to 'count his ducks', daily trips to the grocery store and finishing off the day with his favorite flavors of Blue Bell ice cream. Known for his loving and giving heart, he was affectionately known as 'Pooh bear'. His humor, wit and never-ending and repeating stories will be missed every day. In his own words his daily sign off would be, “ Tell them where you got it and Tell them Poppa says ‘Hey!”
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124 on Friday June 29, 2018 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Speakers Richard Manzella and Bret Villars. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
