Bennie Gerard Hanford, a New Orleans native entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 23, 2018, at the age of 89. Born on October 11, 1928 to the late Margarite Flynn and Benjamin Hanford, the beloved grandson of the late Alice and Walker Hanford. He is survived by the love of his life for 65 years, Nora Federico Hanford. Father of Cynthia, Gerard (Nicole), Gary (Holly), David, and Pamela (Gary) Pete. Grandfather of Justice Buras (Miranda); Damien, Kristen, Matthew, and Nicholas Hanford; Tyler and Quinn Hanford; Stephanie (Nick), Randall, Paul (Emily) Pete. Great Grandfather of Cordelia and Victor Buras; Amelie, Gerard and Finn Hanford; and Olivia Pete. Brother-in-law of Albert (Denise) Federico, Marie Federico and Frank (Chery) Federico, Jr. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Bennie was a proud graduate of Holy Cross High School, and attended Tulane University on a track scholarship. He worked and retired from South Central Bell (AT&T). He was a founding member of St. Angela Merici. Bennie loved sports, outdoors and spending time gardening with his wife.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, on Friday, March 2, 2018, starting at 11:00 AM, followed by a Mass in the Chapel at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
