Audrey Dinkel Meagher, age 91, passed away on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at her home in Folsom with family by her side. She was born in New Orleans where she resided for most of her life. She joins her husband Thomas F. Meagher, Jr. who she celebrated 67 loving years of marriage until his passing in 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents Lydia and George Dinkel and two brothers, Stanley Dinkel and Milton Dinkel.
A sweet, loving mother, grandmother and great-grand mother. Audrey is survived by her three children, Terry Meagher, Thomas Meagher, III (Deborah) and Judy Welty (Dennis); her five grandchildren Tiffany Betz (Christopher), Melissa Calico (Christopher), Jena Smith (Tramel), Thomas Meagher IV (Jessica) and Dennis Welty Jr. (Jourdan); her 8 great-grandchildren and one sister, Melva Dinkel Burgess.
As a young homemaker, her focus was her children. Audrey was a scout leader for many years, including Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. Back in the 1960s, she also served as Director for a summer camp at Joe Brown Park hosting Girl Scout troops from the New Orleans metropolitan area. Outside of being a scout leader, she enjoyed family vacations spent camping, fishing and time outdoors. Audrey worked for Sears & Roebuck where she was the knitting and crochet instructor during the 1970s. As the courses eventually phased out, Audrey continued working for Sears in other capacities and retired in the late 1980s after many years in the accounting department.
Following retirement, Audrey and her husband enjoyed traveling, Mardi Gras, walks in local parks while feeding ducks, hosting family gatherings and spending time with grandchildren. Her extended family of siblings remained exceptionally close over her lifetime. Regardless of geographic distance, they hosted Dinkel family reunions for at least 70 years. Amazingly, she attended every one. Audrey had fond memories of travels, in particular with a special group of Shell Oil retirees and their spouses, and developed close friendships with the group who continued meeting frequently for lunch throughout her life. She also looked forward to her ladies luncheons with friends from Sears, Capdau Junior High and with her fellow Girls Scout leaders of Troup 362. Audrey was always known for her sweet and kind nature.
