Ann Kowis Pope

Ann Marie Kowis Pope, beloved wife of William Pope, Jr., passed away peacefully on September 25, 2018. She was the devoted mother of Genevieve Pope and Elizabeth Pope Weber and mother-in-law of Jeremy Hunnewell and Casey Weber. She was the proud grandmother of Elise Pope Hunnewell and Stella, Gretta and Joshua Weber. She is also survived by her sisters and her brothers-in-law, Florence Lang, Viola and Ralph Pokluda, Nita and Ken Rowe and Catherine and Tim Hollywood, as well as many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen Selensky Kowis and Martin Kowis, Sr., as well as her brother, Martin Kowis, Jr., and her brother-in-law, Eddie Lang.  Ann was a native of Houston, TX and moved to New Orleans where she graduated from Loyola University and met her husband of 45 years.  She was dedicated to her work at St. Robert Bellarmine and St. Clement of Rome Elementary Schools where she served for over 30 years.  She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Girl Scouts, participating in childhood and later serving as a troop leader, instilling confidence and independence in young women.  Ann’s family holds fond memories of her creativity and adventurous spirit, which led to fun-filled vacations, camping trips, parties and art projects. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Ann’s life on Wednesday, October 10th at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and will be followed by a Catholic mass at 11:00 am.  We are grateful for the compassionate care Ann received from the staff at St. Joseph’s Carpenter House in River Ridge.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the St. Joseph’s Hospice Foundation at http://www.stjosephhospicefoundation.org/.
