Tribute

Allan John Chabaud (February 13, 1946-February 25, 2021)
Native of New Orleans, Allan was welcomed into life by his parents, Joyce Dantone and Marion Chabaud, his grandparents, Vincent John Dantone and Francis (Pauline) Mercante Dantone, and his beloved sister, Charlotte Chabaud Scallan, who provided fun during good times and help during bad ones. Allan was proceeded by his younger siblings, Ralph Chabaud and Suzanne Chabaud. Allan drew people into what he loved: humor, beauty, art, photography, music, creativity, many sports, and horse-racing. He enjoyed casino fun, especially with Charlotte and his trusted brother-in-law, David Lodrigues, whom Allan called a saint. Suzanne’s husband, Tim Kemery, provided labor to assist her with meeting Allan’s needs. Although Allan faced many challenges, and was sometimes difficult, he encouraged, inspired, and helped many people. As a Master Occupational Therapist, he committed his entire career to rehabilitating Veterans. His Art Enrichment Center on Metairie Road was a place alive with activity and fun, where people of all ages, especially children, could explore their creativity and share with each other. Allan didn’t just think about things, he made things happen. He was a protector and a compassionate listener, and was always interested in people’s lives. He found ways to make people laugh. His health challenges increasingly prevented engagement in activities he loved but he always found a purpose. During his later years in Biloxi, MS, he wrote five books, made amazing computer art, and recorded music and movies he loved. More than anything, he loved the water and always wished he would be well enough to go fishing again. No one knows the true journey of a person. We can only make conclusions based on what we see. As his sister, Suzanne, I see Allan as a very strong person who never gave up, and as someone who protected me, who was always interested in my life and who loved me dearly. I will always treasure and adore him. We four children shared our gifts, joy, hardships, and quirks. Even in times of absence or disagreement, we always loved each other. Due to the pandemic, only a small gathering of invited loved ones will meet to honor his 75 years of life, but we wish everyone could be there. Allan’s name will be among others on the Dantone-Perino gravestone at Greenwood Cemetery. Please donate to the needy in lieu of cards or flowers. Most of all, find peace in one happy memory of Allan.
