Zachary Logan Maier, 26, passed away on Friday September 22 at University Hospital in New Orleans LA. Zachary was born on May 28,1991 in New Orleans to Timothy and Debra Maier.
Zachary grew up in New Orleans. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in 2009. After high school he attended college at Tulane University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Philosophy.
He worked as a self-employed carpenter for six years while in college before moving on to Doorman Designs where he took great pride in building lovely furniture from beautiful woods.
Zachary loved music, literature, movies and the arts and would spend hours discussing nuance of thoughts and ideas. He had a sharp and active mind, a quick wit, and was always ready with a clever comeback. He was an avid and beautiful fly-fisherman and was frequently seen casting the waters of City Park with a four count rhythm.
He dearly loved his family and friends as dearly as they loved him. He will be missed by all.
Zachary is survived by his parents Timothy and Debra Maier; his step-parents Kathleen Maier and Yves Grignard; his sisters and their husbands Kayleigh and David Gillies, and Meghan and Jordan Myren; his niece Ivy and nephew Nico; his grandparents Ray and Donna Maier of Knoxville TN, and Jack and Sondra Murphy of Metairie; and his beloved dog Luna.
He touched the lives of many during his short time with us.
A memorial service will be held on October 7, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Rogers Memorial Chapel at Tulane University, 1229 Broadway St, New Orleans, LA
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (http://appalachiantrail.org/home/ways-to-give#tribute). Please tribute Zachary Maier in your donation. Zachary loved the time he spent on the trail and cherished the peace he found there.
