Shirley Mae Palmeri, passed away on April 5, 2024, in Slidell, Louisiana, at the age of 90. Shirley was born on August 11, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Edward and Mary Louise Fischer.

Shirley's journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and unwavering strength. She was preceded in death by her siblings Edward Fischer, Vincent Fischer, John Joseph Fischer, Marguerite Heavey, Lorraine Schlosser, and George Joseph Fischer, Sr. Shirley was married once to the late Peter S. Palmeri.

She is survived by her children, Paul Joseph Palmeri (Aida), Sandra "Sandy" Palmeri Habbaz (Johnny), and Terry Michael Palmeri (Pearl). Shirley's legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Triana (Christian), Paul Jr., Lauren (Ray), Pam (Mike), Al (Laura), and Josh. She adored her great-grandchildren, Blake, Gabrielle, Louise, Elliott, and Aistis, who brought immense joy into her life.

Throughout her life, Shirley cultivated a wide range of interests and hobbies that brought her immense joy. An avid sports fan of the Saints, LSU, and Tulane, she found solace and excitement in cheering for her favorite teams. Shirley was a regular at the Jefferson Senior Center, where she enjoyed playing bingo and fostering friendships with other members. Her love for music was evident in the music room she curated in her home, where she spent countless hours listening to her favorite tunes. Shirley also found delight in going on cruises, visiting the casino, and loved to dance.

Shirley's warm and vibrant presence lit up every room she entered, bringing smiles and laughter to all who knew her. Her recent residency at Summerfield Senior Living in Slidell was filled with music, camaraderie, and cherished memories as she shared her passion for music with fellow residents.

In her 33 years as an employee of the National Finance Center, Shirley contributed to her community and formed lasting bonds with those around her. All who had the privilege of knowing her will deeply miss her presence and kindness.

The family would like to extend a special message of gratitude to the staff and workers of Summerfield Senior Living of Slidell for welcoming Shirley into their family during her final months. Their care and compassion brought comfort and joy to Shirley, and she cherished her time with them.

Shirley Mae Palmeri's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.
