Tribute

We are sad to announce the loss of our dear son, brother, and friend, Sean Thomas Lionnet, who passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the age of 50 years old.

Born July 1, 1973, Sean was a lifelong resident of the area, and was affectionately known as the mayor of Metairie. He attended St. Catherine of Siena, and was still active in its Men’s Club. There he earned the Hard-Charger Award, which recognized his continual and unwavering dedication to the Men’s Club. He graduated from Brother Martin High School in 1991 and studied architecture at ULL in Lafayette.

When his taste buds outpaced his college meal ticket, he developed a love of cooking. An outstanding chef for 30 years, he was the de facto family caterer, beloved for his specialty birthday cakes. He was the coowner and head chef of Espresso Express, with his friend and long-time business partner, Melinda Elsesohn.

He was preceded in death by: his grandparents, Alfred and Joyce Lionnet, and Lois and FrankHoggins; and his godmother, Lynn Guiffria.

He is survived by: his parents, Al and Peggy Lionnet; his brother Jeffrey Lionnet; his sister-in-law, Yvette; and his much beloved nephews and niece, Will, Jude, and Mya. Words are not sufficient to describe the love and devotion he had for Will, Jude, and Mya, whom he adored. He is also survived by numerous extended family including: Uncle Jim Hoggins; Aunt Pat Matthews (Mike); Uncle Glenn Lionnet; and cousins: Jillian Hoggins; Katie Gabriel (Warren); Melanie Matthews; Courtney Barros (Scott); Matt Lionnet; Libby; and Taylor Lionnet (Miranda);Alicia and Marcus Giuffria and too many friends to count.

He was gregarious, dapper, creative, and big-hearted. He was a generous man who never said “no” to his family or friends. We will miss him terribly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd, Metairie, on Friday, April 26, 2024, starting at 10:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM. A private burial will take place at a later date.
