Salvador Joseph Cardinale

January 3, 1933 ~ September 23, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Salvador Joseph Cardinale passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the age of 84. Married to his beloved wife, Vera Acosta Cardinale for 60 years. Father of Salvador Cardinale (Angela), Douglas Cardinale (Mary Ann), Tammy Cardinale, Linda Cavallo (Michael), Jean Schultz (Robert), and John Cardinale (Becky). Brother of Margaret Dearth, Rosalie Woods and the late Marie Kaup. He had 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Sal was a Korean War veteran. He retired from Sunbeam Bakery, then drove a school bus for Jefferson Parish for many years.
“PawPaw” was a self-taught jack of all trades. He loved a challenge and every repair, no matter the scope, was met with unrelenting persistence. Some would have called it hard-headedness but he called it a use of his superior ability. Football games with him quarterbacking included all of his children as well as the neighborhood kids, even the girls. He enjoyed cooking breakfast and always “made his eggs with love”. His favorite pastime was fishing and could be found on the water every Wednesday, and then some. In later years the fishing gave way to his new favorite, visiting the casinos.
He was blessed to have had a large loving family that he cherished dearly. Family gatherings of dinner, card games, and laughter will never be the same without him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, on Saturday, September 30, 2017, starting at 9:00 AM, followed by a Mass in the Chapel at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family invites you to share your thoughts, fond memories, and condolences online, at www.greenwoodfh.com
