Maria Mercedes Lopez on Friday, October 13, 2017 passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side at the age of 87. Devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Wife of the late Antonio R. Lopez. Mother of Maria del Carmen Sanchez (the late Carlos Sanchez), Maria de Los Angeles Carr (Larry) and Maria Teresa Lopez (Daniel). Grandmother of Maria Cristina Callen (Paul), Carlos Antonio Sanchez (Roxy), Alexander Edward Carr and Amy Lynn Broy (David). Great grandmother of Liam Matthew Callen, Ava Lucia Callen, Ariya Cunningham, Oceana Cunningham, and Macy Lynn Broy.
Preceding in death of her parents Pedro Mahia Lopez and Avelina Sanchez Lameiro. Siblings Celsa (+Enrique), Maruja (Jose), +Pepe (Carmen) +Jesus, Carmen, Emilio (Concepcion), +Gelines (Jose).
Survived by nieces and nephews, Maria Carmen (Antonio), Maria Jose, Monica (Javier), Maria Angeles (Gustavo) and Emilio (Anne) and Maria Raquel (Ryan). Several great nieces and nephews and loving extended family in Spain. She was a native of Spain and a resident of New Orleans for 58 years. Worked numerous years as a seamstress at Hotel Dieu. Her and her husband were the former owners of the Espana Restaurant for 25 years. She was active in service to the Lions Club in their bingo.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation Friday, October 20, 2017 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM with Mass to follow in the chapel of Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana 70124. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
