Lorraine Bourgeois Dermady was received into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 2nd. Beloved wife of William J. Dermady Junior for over 50 years. Loving and dedicated mother to her son William J. Dermady III (aka Billy/Will), mother-in-law to Julie Batt Dermady.
She had great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mother and recited the Rosary twice a day. Her motto was: Love, Live, and Laugh. She was the daughter of Joseph M. Bourgeois and Marie Mercier Bourgeois. Preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Joseph Elmore and Harold Anthony Bourgeois (Lois), foster sister and Godmother Urline C. Hymel.
Very devoted and loving aunt to Gary (Deborah), Michael (Marilyn), and Philip (Carlen) Bourgeois and Ann Marie Bourgeois Schmitt (Scott). Auntie Raine to Moira and Erin Bourgeois and Nan Nan and adopted grandmother to Thomas Anthony Schmitt. Aunt through marriage to Ray and David Duthu, Ann D. Shank, and Angela R. Ramon.
A member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church since 1938. She attended St. Joseph and St. Francis Xavier Catholic Grammar Schools, Sacred Heart of Jesus High School, also attended Spencer and Soule Business Colleges. She taught in the CCD High School of Religion Program and received a certificate to teach from Notre Dame Seminary. She participated and held office in various church parish organizations. In the 1950’s she organized the Kemper Women, Inc. Social Club and in 1980 organized the St. Francis Xavier Bon Temps Senior Club. She sung in the St. Francis Choir for over 30 years. She received the St. Louis Award in 1980 and two Senior Citizen Awards.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 448 Metairie Rd., Metairie, LA 70005 on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 1:00. Visitation begins at 10:00. Burial will be at St. Louis Cemetery III, Esplanade Ave., New Orleans.
In lieu of flowers, please have masses said, or make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.), or to Deacon Ed Coudrain’s Helping Hands Food Bank at St. Francis Xavier.
